Well I'm currently upgrading my notebook to 9.04 atm. I've finally got migrated to my new living quarters just hours ago and have managed to get wifi access setup using my hacked wrt54g. There was 1131mb of package upgrades for me personally but I have a ton of applications installed so I wouldn't expect anything less. Once again, for the last several major upgrades the interface is so far working flawlessly and taking off without a hitch. I'm about to sign off for the night but by morning all should be complete :D. I'm looking forward to booting to some significant upgrades in the early AM and post of my first impressions and hopefully of the little-to-no issues I've had.

Here are the specs on this particular machine:

3.2Ghz P4 H.T.
2GB DDR 400
ATI 9700 PRO [100% HARDWARE]
80 GB H.D.
1400x1050 LCD @ 4:3

This is a bit of an old laptop I had custom made by a no-name manufacturer while I was serving in Iraq in 2004-2005 and it's really held it's weight since I've had it and it runs great, especially with some tuning. Having this thing made with quality parts was the best thing I ever did and has made keeping linux running nearly 100% compliant with the hardware an easy task. In the morning I'll give some updates to the install. I'm off for tonight though...

Ok, so the upgrade is done

Ok, so the upgrade is done and there were a few issues; somehow only a partial upgrade was completed due to my crazy internet connection leaving me booted up to busybox shell after my reboot. I was able to restart and boot into a bash shell using the next oldest kernel but no GUI period. Probably an X issue but I didn't care I figured I had my thumb on the real issue already. I hopped on the cli and issued an 'apt-get -y dist-upgrade' let it do it's thing and the remaining 80 something packages continued to upgrade. Once complete I rebooted and magic* the machine was up and running great in the new sexy gdm theme and I was checking out 9.04.
